The Nerd Holiday Calendar

Holidays are always a fun time to be with friends and family. Our family likes to make the most of our holidays. So why not have even more holidays to enjoy? Well since we are a nerdy family we put some nerdy holidays on our calendar to celebrate. So here are some fun nerdy holidays that need to be added to your calendar if you’re nerdy or geeky and love to celebrate holidays!

The Nerd Holiday Calendar


18th– Winnie The Pooh Day: Who doesn’t love “this silly old bear”. Winnie The Pooh day is a national holiday celebrated on January 18thbecause it is the birthday of author A.A. Milne. A.A. Milne wrote the beloved Winnie The Pooh series in the 1920’s and they were brought to life in animation by Disney in the 1960’s.


27th– Pokémon Day: Pokémon Day is celebrated this day because it’s the day when the first Pokémon games were launched in Japan in 1996. So grab your friends, find your favorite Pokémon game platform, and go catch em’ all today!


2nd– Dr. Seuss Day: Also known as Read Across America day, Dr. Seuss Day was started in the 1990’s.  Read Across America day was set on Dr. Seuss’s birthday to commemorate the authors legacy. This day is used to encourage kids to read. So grab your kids and read a Dr. Seuss book today!

10th– Mario Day: Mario is a legendary Nintendo character with an immense fan base. This beloved character appeared in games that really took off starting in the 1980’s. There isn’t an official date when Mario officially debuted, so Mario Day is celebrated on March 10thbecause the abbreviation Mar.10 looks like Mario. So find your favorite Mario game and enjoy playing today!

14th– Pi Day: No not pie… pi. Pi day is a celebration for the math constant pi. It’s celebrated this day because well 3.14 are important digits in pi, and that happens to be the date of March 14th! So all you math nerds grab some pie and enjoy your Pi Day!


5th– First Contact Day: Alright all you Trekkies time to look towards the stars… happen to see any Vulcans? This minor Star Trek holiday celebrates when humans make first contact with the Vulcans on April 5th 2063 as seen in the Episode Homestead in the Star Trek Voyager series ( to get those telescopes out and look to the stars.


 4th– Star Wars Day: This holiday began as a fan based holiday. Star Wars Day is celebrated today  because the phrase “May the Fourth” has a unique pun from the popular franchise phrase “May the Force be with you”. So whether you’re on the dark side or the light side, on this day May the Fourth be with you!

24th– Tiara Day: Created in 2005 by Barbara Bellisimo as part of a self improvement program, tiara day took off as an annual tradition.  May 24this also the birthday of Queen Victoria so it seems like a fitting day for tiaras. So get those tiaras out ladies and be proud to be you!


9th– Donald Duck Day: On June 9th, 1934 the beloved cartoon character Donald Duck made his debut. So grab your favorite Donald Duck show and celebrate this classic Disney character.

24th– Fairy Day: While the reason for celebrating fairies this particular ay is unknown to me, why not have a day for fairies? Today is known as international fairy day. With so many versions of what fairies are and do in different cultures there are many ways to celebrate these mythological beings. So go celebrate fairies!


31st– Harry Potter Day: Celebrate the “boy who lived” and everything about his magical world on his birthday! That’s right, today is Harry Potters birthday. Grab some butter beer and curl up with one of the many magical books or movies in this popular franchise.


1st– Back to Hogwarts Day: That’s right all you witches and wizards, it’s time to head to Hogwarts today! This is the day that’s known in the series as the day every student leaves for Hogwarts.This annual event is perfect for the back to school learning season. Make sure you make it to platform 9 ¾ in time!

8th– Star Trek Day: The first episode of Star Trek aired on September 8th, 1966. Thanks to the inspiration of Gene Roddenberry we have had an idealistic vision of the future that has inspired many fans of the series. So prepare to explore your inner Trekkie today and enjoy your Star Trek Day!

19th– Talk Like a Pirate Day: Ahoy matey’s! This holiday began with two guys and an idea from being nerdy in 1995. Read the whole story here Well it eventually took off and now me hearty celebrate being a pirate today… yo ho!

22nd– Hobbit Day: The 22nd of September is a holiday observed during Tolkien week; Tolkien week being observed during the week of September that contains the date of the 22nd. The beloved Tolkien hobbit characters Bilbo and Frodo Baggins both share a birthday on the 22ndof September. Hence, in honor of their birthday, Hobbit Day is celebrated amongst fans of the series on September 22nd. So grab your friends and start a feast today! For more info. Go here

22nd– Elephant Appreciation Day: Also on the 22nd is Elephant Appreciation Day. Wayne Hepburn, owner of a graphics and publishing company seems to be the one who started this holiday. It started in 1996 and has gained momentum. Who doesn’t want to appreciate these incredible creatures?


18th– Mickey Mouse’s Birthday: The premier of the famous animated picture Steamboat Willie was on November 18th, 1928. Since then we have watched the beloved Disney icon Mickey Mouse grow into what he is today. So grab your mouse ear hats and celebrate this mouse with a party!


5th– Ninja Day: This holiday was created by Ninja Burger in 2003 to promote speedy burger delivery. However, for all you ninja lovers out there why not celebrate all things ninja? However, if you are in Japan, their Ninja Day is celebrated (more recently) on February 22nd.

28th– Excelsior Day: On November 12th, 2018 Stan Lee, famous comic book writer passed away. Since his passing there has been a movement among his fans to create a holiday on his birthday to celebrate his memory and legacy. Many fans are calling it Excelsior Day. So grab your favorite comic book (written by Stan Lee of course), watch your favorite Marvel movie, or just wear your favorite Marvel outfit to commemorate this mans extraordinary legacy.
